How we use AI (New Zealand)
Last updated October 3, 2026
The short version
- When you call or message a business that uses Tradies Line, an AI may answer for them, in their business name.
- Ask if you're talking to a person and it tells you straight away that it's an AI.
- Calls are recorded and transcribed so the business can check what was said.
- The AI never gives a firm price or commits the business to anything. A person from the business follows up.
- Quotes and invoices are always checked and sent by a person.
Who answers
Tradies Line runs the office for trade businesses in Australia and New Zealand. When a business uses it, two AI assistants can answer for them:
- The AI receptionist answers phone calls the business can't take, on the number you already ring.
- Wombo answers messages: website chat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and, in Australia, texts.
Both answer in the business's name. The AI does not reply to email. It can draft an email reply, and a person from the business reads it and decides whether to send it.
How you know it's AI
If you ask whether you're talking to a person, the AI tells you straight away that it's an AI working for the business. It never says it's a human member of the team.
Recordings and transcripts
Calls answered by the AI are recorded and transcribed, and the AI tells you the call is recorded during the conversation. The business can listen to the recording, read the transcript and see a short summary. Messages are kept in the business's inbox in the same way.
What the AI does, and what it won't do
- It finds out what you need and where, and either books the job into the business's calendar or takes your details so they can call you back.
- If the business allows it, it can give a rough price from their own price list. It never gives a firm price. The final price is up to the business.
- It doesn't diagnose problems or give advice on fixing them.
- It never asks for your card details.
- If your job is urgent, it can send the business a text with your details while you're on the line.
- It can't transfer you to a person during the call. Someone from the business gets back to you.
Messages you may get afterwards
- When a job is booked by phone, you get one text confirming it.
- If the business has turned them on, you may get reminders about a quote or an unpaid invoice by email and text, and sometimes a short automated call about an unpaid invoice.
Texts come from the sender name "TradiesLine". Reply STOP to any text to opt out.
